"It is Sunday afternoon, and Fall has started to visit southwest Georgia, with slight coolish breezes, lots of sun, cotton growing and of course, the smell of peanut season is right around the corner. Sitting on your front porch, in the swing, slightly hidden from the neighbors thanks to the holly bush growing tall around the porch, you sip a cup of coffee, freshly brewed, and your dogs are cuddled up with you, you begin to smile. It is a good day, and a good feeling that you have.
Then you realize, once again, that you are not on your front porch, but sitting at work, with your earbuds in your ear, connected to your iPod or MP3 players, and you’re listening to a review copy of Fat Jackson’s soon to be released cd, Full Frontal, typing furiously away, hurrying to meet deadlines.
But you don’t feel stressed nor do you feel worried.
Your head is bopping to the slow sounds of tender ballad, Jenny, to the short quip Hand Turkey to the head nodding Bottom Feeder, Full Frontal is a treasure for those who miss the days of music with lyrics and music that balance each other out.
And that you can understand.
The music is soulful, hip, hard, soft, and everything in between which truly makes it almost as scrumptious as a bowl of piping warm, soothing homemade vegetable soup from your grandmother’s crock pot. And that makes Josh Blankenship, Rusty Cheek, Eric Megahee, Stephen Moreno, and Pat Owen, smile. The band, Fat Jackson, has been together for over three years, as a improv/jam band. With the release of the CD, Full Frontal, fans and soon to be fans(after you catch their act, you will become a fan, no matter your age) will be asking for seconds just like at the family reunion when Grandma Mildred whips out her banana pudding.
Calling on the hit makers of rock, jazz, southern rock, and blues, like Miles Davis, the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Grateful Dead, and even some bluegrass, Fat Jackson has a hit in the making themselves with the album, Full Frontal, which will be on sale starting Saturday (tomorrow) at Pat’s Place in Americus beginning around dark. The boys won’t be playing live, but the album will be playing, and as Pat Owen said, “It is going to be great!”
There will be t-shirts and CDs and of course, stickers on sale for less then $20, a real steal for such a gem that everyone will want to add to their collections, and you’ll be supporting local artists.
It won’t be long, this writer thinks, after hearing the full CD(which I won’t go into detail about - somethings are better left unsaid and better if you try it yourself) and meeting with the band, that people will becoming to Americus/Sumter County because Rusty, Eric, Stephen, Josh and Pat are from here.
